What About Those Veils?

A veil is one of those interesting articles of clothing that---- yes!!!! is worn by both men and women and so, my brothers, this is a treasure for you too. What, you don't believe me? Read on, and all will be made clear, or better yet, all will be unveiled. The Webster's Concise Dictionary defines a veil as - a piece of fabric worn over the face or head for concealment, protection or ornament; anything that conceals or covers. While natural, physical veils seem to be limited mainly to women, when we move into the spiritual there is no gender discrimination as to the wearer. Nor are they limited to the unsaved.

We wear them over our minds, eyes, ears, and hearts. These veils are very diverse. Some veils are weaved from the hurts and pains that we have never released to the Great Physician. For some people, the veils become mandatory protective gear before they leave their rooms. Other veils are forged by the darkness of pride, disobedience, self-will, and the wisdom of men. Why not look at the very interesting veil that the Mighty King David wore? His sexual sin with Bathsheba (even though God forgave him) forged a veil such that he was unable to discern Amnon's (his son) intention towards his sister Tamar. (2 Sam. 11, 13, 14&15) The results of that we all know ----rape, incest and murder. What veils do you now wear that trouble your children and even your generation?

There are even very religious veils. In fact, they are sometimes the most dangerous ones. In his discourse to the Corinthian, Paul the Apostle highlighted the plight of the Jewish people whose religious veils prevented them from seeing and embracing the new and better Covenant given to them in Christ Jesus (2 Corinth 3:7-16). Unfortunately, these veils block out the glorious light of the Gospel (2 Corinth. 4:4). They are like scales over our eyes and plugs in our ears. Veils prevent us from seeing our Lord's beauty, splendour and love. They hinder true worship and neutralize our faith. Instead, we stumble around in the darkness and deception that they create. Brethren, let us examine our dress code in the light of the Holy Spirit. What veils separate you from intimacy with your Saviour?

Be encouraged. At Calvary, the issue of veils was dealt with once and for all. The natural, physical veil in the Temple was rent in two from top to bottom (Matt.27:51). This pointed to the deeper spiritual reality that Christ, in his death, had destroyed the veil of his flesh to provide a living way into the very presence of God (Heb10:Z0).

Brethren, let us take a trip back to the Cross of Calvary. Let it crucify the fabrics of our veils. The light of Christ will drive away the darkness. His blood can sanitize the putrid stench of our individual situations.

Dear Father, Thanks for not withholding your only begotten son who paid the ransom to rescue us from darkness and deception. By your Spirit, Lord, rip the veils from our lives so we might see you. We bring our veils to the Cross and step into the light of your presence. Please, Lord, clothe us in your glory!
